Human Factors Industrial Designer

Job description

About Nacar Design

Nacar is an award-winning Strategic Design Agency based in Barcelona, with an agile and international team of over 70 creative professionals. We work with all-size clients from across multiple sectors establishing solutions and product strategies that apply to Industrial, Digital, Brand and Service Design. We expect to hire a Human Centered Industrial Designer soon.

About the role
This role is an opportunity for industrial designers who are specializing in human factors and ergonomics, but also want to do hands-on design. This in contrast to human factors specialists and human factors engineers.
In cooperation with industrial designers, you develop human factors (ergonomic) design models on level of product architecture (postural ergonomics) for light capital equipment, e.g., for the graphics industry and the medical industry. You frame wicked ergonomic challenges, making the complex simple, enabling agile and well sustained design decisions.
Also, you design solutions on interface-level e.g., movements, handles and buttons. You explore and prototype different solutions that are intuitive, add to the overall form-language, are optimized for manufacturability, and add to a consistent and great end-to-end experience.

About you
We know that you have a passion for users and industrial design, in this order. You are an explorer, who not only frames the problem, but also designs the solution. We can imagine that your education included a fair share of human factors and ergonomics and that you have some years of professional experience as designer for functional, physical, products. You are used to collaborate with other industrial designers and product development engineers.
Another scenario would be that you already have some years of experience as human factors specialist and you want to move to a “real” design environment.
Whatever your story is, if the next chapter is human factors design, then we would love to hear it!

We offer
At Nacar we believe in long-term relationships. Therefore, we offer a permanent work-agreement (contrato indefinido), a salary in function of your educational background and experience, and a yearly job performance appraisal.
Currently we work Covid-save, from home. Voluntarily you can work one or two days a week at Nacar Studio, which is open with limited capacity.
You are going to be part of a dynamic 15+ nationalities community: we speak three languages daily, we do team-building activities, and we have our Nacar Academy training program.
And still, we understand that not everything happens at Nacar… Additional to bank holidays we offer 26 paid vacation days.

How to apply?

Please send your C.V. and a portfolio/overview of projects that you have researched and designed for. It is optional, but you do us a favor if you take 5 minutes to answer a few questions. A short cover letter is also optional.

  • For this role you will need a degree in industrial design that includes sound knowledge of common human factors and ergonomics such as anthropometrics, postural ergonomics, arm/wrist/hand/finger ergonomics, visual ergonomics, and semantics .
  • Since you are an industrial designer, you also have knowledge of manufacturing technologies like sheet metal forming, injection molding, and extrusion.
  • You are a trained designer: you explore, ideate, make trade-offs, and present solutions accompanied with clear argumentation.
  • You are trained with at least one 3D CAD software e.g., SW, Fusion360, Rhino, Creo.
  • You have the communication skills that allow you to connect in larger organizations: with other designers and with the engineers that materialize you designs.
  • English is no problem for you. Spanish or Catalan is a strong plus.
  • You stand firmly in the shoes and are flexible at the same time.
